The first car was given was a complete dud; pretty damaged on the exterior and I experienced engine issues a few hours after picking up the vehicle. I had to return to the hertz location to exchange cars which was a big waste of time on my vacation. I guess this is the reality of just taking the cheapest option on these discount sites (kayak, Expedia, etc) the rental location just gives you the worst possible car and you hope for the best. Replacement car was fine however, ended up with an upgraded car which is to be expected at that point.

Pushy employee at pick up, insisting on adding extras with scaring tactics. The car was inspected independently but they never shared a list of preexisting damages. When we asked for a joined review of the car’s condition, the response was that this was not possible. We were given an “upgrade” since the car we had booked was not on location. Apart from the service at pickup, the car provided was fine and the checkout was smooth.

Sixt sent us a damage report for small scratches that we did not cause after mis-representing their policy. We paid for the Loss Damage Waiver they advertised as covering up to EUR 1200 in damages. In fact, this policy covers only beyond this but to an unspecified amount. They have been entirely uncooperative as I have explained that we were misled by their counter agent and would not have purchased their insurance knowing the true policy. Note that the car rented came with a generous amount of scratches on it already. I will never rent from Sixt again, and neither should you.
