Getting around Tempe is accomplished with ease thanks to the Valley Metro, a unified regional transit system incorporating public buses, dial a ride, carpooling and a light rail service. Within the city it’s convenient to use the free Orbit bus service. These small buses connect residential areas with other bus routes, shopping areas and various districts.
The nearest airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX), around 7 miles (11 km) away. City public transit bus stops at the airport. Additionally, the free PHX Airport Shuttle, called the PHX Sky Train, takes passengers to light rail and bus stops in central Phoenix, from which the Valley Metro system continues on to Tempe. Taxis are also available at the airport. Rates remain the same for these irrespective of the taxi company and number of passengers and bags.
