I rented a Nissan Leaf, assuming that I could easily recharge the car. No one in the Avis dealership advised me otherwise. However, when it came time to recharge, I was unable to download the appropriate apps through the App store because I was not in North America. I had to call a trouble number for Clever (a charging company) who overroad the system so I could at least drive the car to my hotel. I then had to drive back to an Avis rental outlet at the Billund Airport and they let me exchange the car for the ONLY one they had. I asked what they would have done if they had no cars at all and they said, "We will call you a taxi." Thankfully an exchange was possible. People renting electric cars in Europe who come from North America ought to know that charging might not be possible if you expect to download an app for various charging companies.
