In Ireland - at Avis Budget - your American car insurance is not valid. They will not make this clear in any messaging leading up to the rental counter. This is to encourage purchase of their own insurance which is a profit center. Some credit cards cover this insurance but you need a written letter from the card issuer stating this.

Quick easy pick-up of the car and drop off. Excellent staff at pick-up and drop off point. Would have been nice if the car was cheaper but hay-ho that's life.

Expensive extras, ie insurance + additional driver. Took way too long to collect the vehicle in the first place - 45 minutes.

Mark was the BEST!! We were sold an insurance policy from a 3rd party that ended up being invalid in Ireland...we never would have known without Mark! He brought it to our attention, helped us confirm this fact with the 3rd party, and helped facilitate our refund with them. He then helped us get a a valid policy, and even upgraded our car to help ease our pain of the day ;) Would recommend!

Dirty bathrooms with no toilet paper in men's OR women's bathrooms.

Didn't like attitude of counter staff on surprising news that as we had booked on a US website we were required to pay €12,500 immediately from our credit card before collecting our hire car. Also unknown to us a copy of our insurance was expected. Consequently we cancelled the car.
