Cheap Car Rentals in Downtown, Grand Rapids

Have the right car ready for us.We had reserved a midsize an we got a compact. The car was dirty an small.We will never rent from hertz again.I would hope hertz reaches out to us for some kind of compensation.

The guys at the desk were friendly and helpful. The price of the car rental was kind of more than I would of wanted o pay normally.

Vehicle was clean and comfortable, with lots of room for luggage. Would have been nice if I could have gone through Kayak again to add insurance to rental after changing my mind. I was unable to get a live person to assist as there was no options via computerized phone menu or online. Very frustrating.

The Enterprise clerks who worked with customers were unfailingly quick, helpful, personable, and effective.

I set my pick up time for 6pm on Kayak which was confirmed. I was on a layover in Denver when Enterprise called me and said that they would be unable to create my agreement if I were to arrive at 6pm as their system shuts down at 6 sharp. My flight landed at 5:50 and I would have been there at 6:05. They absolutely refused to do anything to help and I ended up having to cancel. There were literally 0 cars available at any of the rental agencies at the airport or Uhaul. I ended up having to rent a Home Depot van for my trip as it was the ONLY option besides a Tesla for $985 per day on Turo. This was a terrible experience and I will not be using Kayak to book anything in the future as you are clearly out of touch with your suppliers.

Checkin was horrible. The time to pickup the car was 30-45 minutes. This did not include any waiting time.

The clerk would not take our debit card. She needed a hard copy of a bank statement or utility bill. Luckily we had a branch of our bank locally but we are from WI and were attempting to rent in MI. Very unsatisfactory experience.

The car was very clean, but I had a couple issues with it: 1. The headlights seemed to be really poorly aligned. I could barely see anything at night unless I turned the high beams on, and that's pretty annoying/potentially dangerous. 2. I was driving on a wet highway in the winter. The road had a lot of salt on it, and it was constantly being kicked up onto the windshield. The wiper fluid that Avis uses must be really cheap, because it froze up in the lines and wouldn't spray onto the windshield. I had to constantly pull off to wipe the windshield manually so that I could safely see while driving. Dangerous! Also, I was in a position to return the car early, but I wanted to know if it would cost more to do so (due to having had a discount for renting over a longer period initially). I called Avis for info about this twice, and both times I got turned away. They said that they could only show me the price *after* accepting the car back. These people do this every day; surely they should have an idea of whether or not it'd be more expensive. In the end, while the car was clean and relatively cheap, my overall experience with my rental wasn't a good one. Based on this experience, I'd be hesitant to return to this Avis/Budget location.
