Requested a car at the Ft Lauderdale airport. Learned my reservation was not at the airport when I got there. Hertz people were rude and blamed Kayak. Worse they would not help get to their other rental site off of the airport. I had to spend $30 on a cab ride there. Once I got there two of the four people behind the desk were sleeping in chairs while I had to wait an hour to check in. When I thought things were close, they messed up the paperwork and had to restart everything. The next thing I know the woman helping me walked away without and insight as to why. She was gone for 15 mins and the long line of people began wondering if she went to lunch. At this point their office was full of irate customers. When she finally returned, she gave me the keys to my car. Of course the car wouldn’t start and the staff blamed me. I found the woman again and she couldn’t start it either. She then realized she had given me the wrong keys. Once she found the keys I walked back to my car and did get it started. However, the language for the car systems had been changed to Spanish. I had to find this woman again to ask for help. She seemed annoyed again and told me to simply “change the language.” Easier said than done since I cannot read the screens at all. I had to wait another 5 mins while they found someone who could do this. Worse, the car gas light was on and the tank was empty. Now I had to go get gas while my family waited at the airport for me to pick them up. It took over two and a half hours to catch a cab, wait in line, deal with my car, find a gas station, get gas and drive back to the airport. No apology, no help, no sympathy for my terrible experience. By the way, my son is on crutches from a surgery so that poor kid was stuck sitting in an airport for that two and a half hours. I would like to say that this was the end. But it started all over as I returned the car. Another 30+ mins waiting in line, rude service and another $30 cab ride back to the airport. They office has a shuttle van to take people to their cruise ship, but they refused to take me to the airport. I NOW HATE KAYAK AND HERTZ. I AM DONE WITH BOTH. I CALLED BOTH COMPANIES AND PEOPLE REFUSED TO HELP ME. YOU BOTH LEFT MY SON IN EXTRA PAIN AND DIDN’T CARE. HOPE OTHERS NOW STAY AWAY TOO!
