Cheap Car Rentals in Downtown, Chicago

They need to make cars available before they they can reserve and confirm car rentals

When we went to pick up the car we had reserved there were no cars available.

I needed a drop top. They called and told me they didn’t have it until Monday

Oversold rental cars

Confirmation quoted $304 to pay at pickup. The agent charged me $504 (security deposit and price of rental). As I was not prepared to pay that much at pickup, my credit card was declined. Had they been honest about the payment due at pickup I would have made sure I had enough on my card. Additionally, they refused to take a debit card even under extenuating circumstances and left me and my friend stranded the day of my sister’s wedding rehearsal.

I rented a subcompact car (Kia Rio) for 3:00 p.m, and the cost came out to $86 and change. I arrived at about 3:05 - 3:10 and was told, "We were supposed to be closed at 3:00 and since you came late, we only have a minivan." A much larger, and less fuel-efficient vehicle than I had requested. After filling up the tank, and returning the minivan, I got the emailed receipt and realized that I was charged $107. So I spent more on gas, and was charged more for a vehicle that I had not even requested in the first place. The van (Chrysler Pacifica) itself was very clean, and equipped with some nice features. Best CarPlay implementation I've seen thus far, and the lane assist was a good touch.

The undisclosed manager's special's vehicle was a full size pick-up truck - a Dodge 1500 - much to my surprise. The daily rental cost was a great value for the money, but the cost of fuel was substantially higher than I had budgeted, given that I was anticipating a vehicle with a much smaller engine at this price point. The initial QR code I was given to exit the parking garage in the Chicago Loop also did not work, leading me to remain stuck for several minutes at the exit gate until I was able to get through to a human being at Hertz and explain my situation. The second QR code I was given opened the gate immediately. The 1500.Dodge Ram was offered at an extremely low daily for this make and model of truck, though I was not expecting to drive such a large vehicle in and out of downtown Chicago where parking for vehicles of this size can sometimes be difficult, not to mention the savings I earned from lower rental costs were offset by the costs of refueling a vehicle that only averaged 17 mpg.

Guys at the front desk on both the front end and back end were great. One of them was having a rough morning too and was still very friendly and provided great service.

Pick up location was wrong... ended up spending 5x more money on rental due to location I was at having 1 vehicle left.

Great customer service and convenience

Had a booking for a 9am pick-up but there were no cars available so had to wait until past 10to get a car.

The rental agent in Chicago was extremely helpful. I'd like the rental cost to have been less expensive.

Worked out great!

I had to trade my first car for another one because I was getting tickets due to the fact that the license plate had expired a month earlier. Both times the pick-up process took forever. The only place to sit in the dingy office is a ledge along the windows. The staff (only two people) was very nice and helpful but clearly overwhelmed. Even though this office is only four blocks from where I live I'm not sure I want to rent from them again.

my credit card number was stolen and used within hours of picking up car, giving my credit card info to sixt employees. My credit card co believes it was likely this car rental that took/used my card illegally.

Pick up and drop of was easy, I just wish there was one closer to me and not a bus and train ride away.

I arrived to pick up the car and was told my reservation was canceled.

Was allowed to reserve car and then when I showed up to pick it up they told me (along with many other patrons) that they were out of cars and wouldn’t be giving me a car to honor their reservation.
